What's new
15 updates since you last looked.
Practise any line, as often as you like
New 17 Oct 2026- Pick a line to practise: the Practice tab lists your repertoire's branch points, with how many of your moves sit under each. Click one and the trainer stays inside that line.
- Practice is free: it never reschedules a move, so running a line ten times won't push its next review out by months. Misses still count, so a move you keep missing still gets its hint.
- Go again when a run ends. Deeper lines are still a click away from "Practice from here" in the builder.
What the masters played
New 17 Oct 2026- End of a line in opening practice: a short list of masters games from that position, with the move each one played next.
- Games where you left your repertoire: the game page shows what grandmasters played at that exact spot.
- The builder's Masters tab lists the games too. Each one opens on Lichess at that position. Needs your Lichess account linked, like the rest of the explorer.
- The repertoire board no longer locks up when the site is slow to answer, and a failed save now says why.
A tidier problem page, and casual clubs
New 16 Oct 2026- Submit sits right next to your line. No more scrolling for it, and the board no longer flips: a problem is set the way it's meant to be seen.
- The heading is above the board on a phone: which section, which mode, and what to find.
- Club owners can turn the Standings tab off (Manage → What members see). Games, the journal and everyone's own records stay; the league table goes.
Prep with their online games
New 15 Oct 2026- Their online games, side by side with their club games: what they play and where it leaves your repertoire.
- Uses the accounts they've linked. If you know a clubmate's username and they haven't linked it, you can add it privately for your own prep. Only you ever see it.
- Prep needs your own Lichess linked, so everyone who preps is in the same pool.
Prep for your next opponent
New 14 Oct 2026- A Prep page for every clubmate, from their member page, or from your board in a tournament.
- Against your repertoire: every place their games go somewhere your prep doesn't cover, with how often, linked straight to that position in the builder so you can add an answer.
- What they play with White and with Black, and how they score in it.
- Your record against them, game by game.
- Built only from games shared to your club.
Puzzles from your own mistakes
New 13 Oct 2026- From your games, on the dashboard: your blunders and mistakes as puzzles, game by game. Press Analyse on a game and its mistakes turn up there.
- They work like any other problem: play it out, solve first or blindfold, and the ones you miss come back in your review. A different good move counts too, not just the engine's first choice.
- This week's blunders on your club's Tactics tab: the moves that went wrong in this week's club games, for everyone to try. Don't want yours there? Turn it off in Preferences.
- Nobody outside your club ever sees them.
Your games teach your openings
New 12 Oct 2026- When you play something other than your prepared move, the game page says so, and that move goes to the front of your opening review straight away.
- The Openings page lists where it happened, with the game and the opponent, until you get the move right in training.
- Works for games you record on your phone and recent games you import.
Tournaments on club night
New 9 Oct 2026- Round robin or Swiss. An admin ticks who's playing (guests too, by name) and the site pairs it. Round robin pairs every round at once; Swiss pairs each round from the scores.
- Results come in by themselves. Record your game as usual and it lands on its board. Your phone even knows who you're paired with and fills it in. Or just tap 1-0, ½-½ or 0-1.
- A crosstable on the night's journal post, updating as results arrive.
- Nothing changes for casual nights. No tournament, no setup: games and the journal work exactly as before.
The club journal
New 6 Oct 2026- A Journal tab on every club. One post per night, built from the games shared that day, with the results, where you played and a cover photo.
- Photos. Add them on your phone straight after a game, on the game page, or on the night's page. Taken with no signal? They wait on the phone and upload with the game.
- Only your club sees them. Photos are never public, and the location and camera details your phone hides inside a photo are stripped before it's saved.
- A write-up for the night, which any member can start or edit. Who brought the board, the game everyone crowded round.
- Skip for now. A problem that's a wall today, a blindfold one especially, can be skipped. Nothing counts against you: a new one comes round again in a week, a review tomorrow.
Recording games, quicker
New 5 Oct 2026- The opponent box suggests people from your clubs. Start typing a name and your club members come up. Pick one and the game goes to that club with both of you tagged, so it shows up in the feed and the standings without another step. Changed your mind? Set Club back to "keep it to myself".
- Starting a game asks three things: your colour, who you're playing and where. Club, time control and the rest are under More details, and its label shows what's set in there.
- Live games time every move. The game page says how long the game took, and with a time control (say 15+10) it shows both clocks move by move, with nothing to type in.
- Ratings, event and round are no longer asked at the board. Add them on the game page afterwards if you want them.
- One account per email address. Behind the scenes, but it means a password reset only ever goes to one account.
Writing your line down
New 15 Sep 2026- Blindfold and solve-first take the whole line in one box. Type your own moves —
Qb7 Nc3— and press Enter. The opponent's replies are filled in for you, and writing them in yourself still works. - A line that stops short isn't counted as a miss. It tells you it isn't finished, records nothing, and you add the rest and submit again. A wrong move still counts.
- Solve-first keeps the board still. You work the line out from the diagram and write it down, instead of playing it out — that was turning into a slower version of play-it-out.
- Lowercase notation works.
nf3isNf3. The only letter that still matters isbfor the pawn againstBfor the bishop, and when it really could be either, it asks. - Check says so on the board, and the dashboard's recent attempts say which mode each one was.
Bangs, club feeds and Puzzle mates
New 14 Sep 2026- Taking a piece lands with a bang. A pawn goes POP, a queen goes KABOOM, and mate gets an explosion. Not to your taste? One checkbox in Preferences.
- Solve a blindfold problem and the line plays itself through on the board you never saw.
- In a club, the dashboard leads with the club: games shared, problems solved, streaks, people joining.
- Four tactics boards per club — this week, points, streak and all time — on the club's new Tactics tab, with the ones you stand best on shown on your dashboard. Opt out in Preferences and you're on none of them, and they're hidden from you.
- The mate problems are their own category now, Puzzle mates. They're composed positions: the patterns are the point, and you won't meet them across the board.
- You pick your mode before opening a problem and it stays put while you solve.
Openings, and a lighter site
New 13 Sep 2026- Paste a line into your repertoire. A whole variation at once, brackets and all, carrying on from the position on the board.
- Notes and hints on your moves. A note says why you play it; a hint is asked for only after you've missed the move three times, when you know what would help you remember it.
- The three moves you keep missing are listed beside the biggest gap in each repertoire.
- The engine runs in your browser now, for game reviews, opening lines and the tactics judge. The server got quieter and the site got faster.
- A front page for people who aren't signed in.
A proper look, and a way to chip in
New 11 Sep 2026- The whole site was restyled, with a dark mode that follows your system.
- If it's helping your chess, you can chip in for the server. It stays free either way.
Clubs
New 10 Sep 2026- Clubs. Share your over-the-board games with your club, tag who played, and keep standings and head-to-head records.
- Invite by email or a join link, and approve requests to join.
