Zugzwang

Train on your own.
Play at your club.

Zugzwang is for players who go to a club on a Tuesday night. Sharpen your tactics, build an opening repertoire that drills itself, record your games at the board on your phone, then review them with the people you actually play against.

Free, no ads, and nothing you record is public unless you share it with your club.

Tactics

11,331 problems, from mate in one to endgames, on a board you play out rather than a multiple choice. Miss one and it comes back in a few days, then a week, until it sticks.

Openings

Build a repertoire from what players at your rating actually play, with the engine and master games beside you. It tells you where the gaps are, then drills the moves until you know them.

Games

A scoresheet on your phone that works with no signal, live at the board or copied from paper afterwards. Upload it and get an engine review, your clock times and a check against your repertoire.

Clubs

Start a club, invite your members, and share games to it. Everyone gets standings, a head-to-head record against every clubmate, and a PGN export of the club's games.

Running a club?

1. Start it

Make the club, then invite people by email or hand out a join link. A QR code on the wall on club night works too.

2. Play your games

Members record their games and share them to the club, tagging who played. Two players uploading the same game only counts once.

3. See where you stand

Standings by season, everyone's record against everyone else, and the games themselves to play through and learn from.

It's free

Zugzwang is made by a chess player in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and it's free for you and your club.
